Route Briefing: Dublin to Paris
Just over two hours in the air separates Dublin from one of the most celebrated cities on earth, and that remarkable brevity is exactly why this route deserves a spot on your radar. With Aer Lingus, Ryanair, and Air France all competing for your seat, fares stay genuinely competitive — snag a roundtrip under $120 and you've done well; anything in that range is worth jumping on without hesitation.
Paris needs little introduction, but it rewards every visit differently. The Eiffel Tower is as breathtaking in person as you've always imagined, especially at dusk when the city softens into golden light. The Louvre is genuinely overwhelming in the best possible way — give it a full day and still accept you'll only scratch the surface. Beyond the icons, Paris is a city best experienced at street level: wandering the Marais district, lingering over a café crème at a pavement terrace, or browsing the bouquinistes along the Seine. French cuisine here isn't a cliché — a simple baguette from a neighbourhood boulangerie or a bowl of onion soup in a bistro can be genuinely life-changing.
If you're flying into Charles de Gaulle, the RER B train connects the airport directly to central Paris, reaching major stations including Gare du Nord and Châtelet–Les Halles. It's reliable, affordable, and far less stressful than navigating traffic by taxi. Orly is served by the Orlyval shuttle connecting to the RER B network, giving you a similarly straightforward route into the city.
Timing your trip matters here. June through August brings peak crowds and peak prices — the city is electric but the Louvre queues are real and accommodation costs climb sharply. Spring, particularly April and May, offers a genuinely lovely Paris: mild temperatures, blooming chestnut trees, and noticeably thinner crowds at the major sites. September and October are equally wonderful, with that warm amber light that makes the city feel like a painting. Winter is underrated — Christmas markets, fewer tourists, and a cosier, more local atmosphere.
For the flight itself, book four to eight weeks out for the sweetest spot on pricing. Mid-week departures and early morning flights consistently come in cheaper than Friday or Sunday travel — that saving can easily cover a very good dinner in Paris, which feels like the right way to spend it.
