Route Briefing: London to Nassau
Few destinations justify a transatlantic journey quite like Nassau. Yes, you're looking at around ten and a half hours in the air with a connection through a US hub, but the moment you step off the plane into the warm Bahamian air and catch your first glimpse of that impossibly turquoise water, the journey feels entirely worth it.
From London, your best options route through American Airlines via Miami or Charlotte, Delta through Atlanta or New York, or British Airways operating on a codeshare through a US gateway. Miami connections tend to be particularly smooth for Nassau-bound travellers — the flight from Miami across to Nassau is short, and the whole corridor is well-travelled, meaning plenty of frequency and competitive pricing. A genuinely good deal lands under $700 roundtrip, while standard fares typically run $900 to $1,200 or more. Book three to six months ahead and you'll give yourself the best shot at those lower fares, especially if you're targeting the peak winter season between December and April.
And peak season here is genuinely peak for good reason. The Bahamas in winter offers warm, dry days that feel like a gift when you've left a grey London behind. That said, the shoulder months either side of peak season can offer better value while still delivering excellent weather.
Nassau itself is a place of real contrasts. The famous Atlantis resort on Paradise Island is a spectacle in its own right — an enormous, slightly surreal complex of water slides, marine habitats, and casino floors that's worth experiencing even if you're not staying there. But Nassau rewards those who venture beyond the resort bubble too. The colonial architecture of downtown, the vibrant Junkanoo cultural heritage, and the local fish fry scene give the city genuine character. And then there are the swimming pigs of Exuma — technically a day trip from Nassau, but one of the most genuinely joyful wildlife experiences in the entire Caribbean.
On arrival at Lynden Pindling International Airport, taxis are the most straightforward way to reach your hotel or the Paradise Island area, and the journey is relatively short. Agree on the fare before you set off, as this is standard practice.
The one tip worth burning into your memory: if you're flexible on travel dates, positioning your London departure to connect through Miami on a Tuesday or Wednesday often unlocks the most competitive fares on this route. A little mid-week flexibility can save you a meaningful amount — money better spent on a sunset boat trip or a second round of conch fritters.
