Route Briefing: Mumbai to Bermuda
Few routes from Mumbai demand as much planning as this one — but few reward you quite so generously either. Getting from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport to Bermuda's L.F. Wade International Airport takes 18 hours or more across at least two stops, typically routing through London Heathrow with British Airways or through a US East Coast hub like New York JFK or Boston with American Airlines or Delta. Yes, it's a journey. But what's waiting at the other end is genuinely unlike anywhere else on the planet.
Bermuda sits alone in the North Atlantic, technically not part of the Caribbean but sharing its warmth and then some. The island is compact, immaculately kept, and draped in a kind of quiet elegance that feels distinctly British — think afternoon tea, cricket on the village green, and pastel-painted cottages lining narrow lanes. Then you turn a corner and find a beach with sand that's actually pink, tinted by crushed coral and shells, lapped by water so clear it looks digitally enhanced. Horseshoe Bay is the most famous of these beaches and lives up to every photograph you've seen.
Beyond the beaches, the Crystal and Fantasy Caves near Hamilton are genuinely spectacular — ancient limestone formations reflected in still underground pools. Hamilton itself, the capital, is walkable and charming, with a lively waterfront and a relaxed pace that makes it easy to spend an afternoon doing very little and feeling great about it.
Getting around the island is straightforward. Taxis are available at the airport, and Bermuda has a reliable ferry and bus network that connects most of the island's key spots. Renting a scooter is a popular local option, though it's worth knowing that car rentals for tourists are not available — the island deliberately keeps traffic manageable.
Timing matters enormously on this route. Peak season runs June through August when the weather is warmest and the island buzzes with visitors, but fares from Mumbai can climb well above $1,800 roundtrip during these months. A good deal comes in under $1,200 roundtrip, and that's achievable if you book four to six months ahead and consider travelling in late spring or early autumn when the weather remains pleasant but crowds thin considerably. Flying mid-week rather than weekends can also trim costs noticeably.
The single best piece of advice: treat the London or US layover as a feature, not a bug. A long connection at JFK or Heathrow gives you breathing room to stretch, eat properly, and arrive in Bermuda refreshed rather than crumpled. This is a trip worth doing slowly.
