Route Briefing: Paris to Rhodes
Flying from Paris to Rhodes feels like trading the grand boulevards of one civilisation for the sun-bleached stones of another — and at roughly four and a half hours in the air (usually with a connection through Athens), it's an entirely manageable journey for the reward waiting at the other end. If you catch a good deal, you're looking at under $350 roundtrip, which for a Greek island with this much history and beauty is genuinely exceptional value.
Rhodes is one of those rare places where the superlatives are actually earned. The medieval Old Town — a UNESCO World Heritage Site — is one of the best-preserved walled cities in the entire world. Walking through the Street of the Knights feels less like sightseeing and more like stepping through a door in time. The Palace of the Grand Master looms magnificently at the top of the hill, and the whole fortified quarter buzzes with life after dark, with tavernas and wine bars tucked into ancient stone archways. Beyond the walls, the island stretches out into long stretches of pebble and sand beach, clear Aegean water, and the ruins of Kamiros and Lindos — the latter crowned by an acropolis with views that will genuinely stop you mid-sentence.
Peak season runs June through August, when the island is at its most vibrant but also its most crowded and expensive. If you can travel in May or September, you'll find warm weather, calmer beaches, and a noticeably more relaxed atmosphere — plus better availability on accommodation. For summer travel specifically, book your flights three to five months in advance. Rhodes is enormously popular and fares climb steeply as the season approaches.
Aegean Airlines and Air France are the most reliable options on this route, with connections typically routing through Athens. Aegean in particular is worth checking carefully — their Athens connections are frequent and well-timed, and the airline has a strong reputation for service. EasyJet sometimes offers competitive seasonal fares worth monitoring too.
On arrival at Rhodes International Airport, the city centre and Old Town are only a short taxi or bus ride away — the island is compact enough that getting around is straightforward once you're there.
The single best tip for this route: price out booking your Paris-to-Athens and Athens-to-Rhodes legs separately. Sometimes the individual segments cost less than a single through-ticket, particularly if you're flexible on timing and willing to spend a few hours in Athens — which, frankly, is never a hardship.
