The Amalfi Coast is reachable by ferry or bus, and the islands of Capri and Ischia sit just offshore. You could spend a week here without once feeling like you've exhausted your options.
From Naples International Airport, the Alibus shuttle connects directly to the city centre and the main train station, making arrival straightforward and affordable. It's worth having some cash on hand when you land — Naples rewards those who are prepared to navigate it on its own terms.
Peak season runs June through August, when the weather is reliably hot and the coastal scenery is at its most dramatic. That said, this is also when fares and crowds spike. Book two to four months ahead if you're travelling in summer, and lean toward midweek flights — Tuesdays and Wednesdays consistently offer softer pricing on this route. Avoiding Italian public holidays also helps keep costs down.
The single best tip for this trip? Resist the urge to rush south to the Amalfi Coast immediately. Give Naples itself two full days first. The archaeological museum alone — home to some of the finest Roman artefacts ever recovered — is worth the flight.
