The altitude adjustment is real, and the city rewards slow exploration — Boudhanath Stupa, one of the largest Buddhist stupas in the world, and the Hindu temple complex at Pashupatinath are experiences that deserve unhurried attention. Kathmandu isn't just a transit point. It's a destination all on its own.
