The best times to visit are the dry seasons, which align with the global peak travel windows of July through August and December. The trails into gorilla territory are far more manageable when the ground isn't waterlogged, and the highland air stays crisp and clear.
One tip that makes a real difference: if you're connecting through Nairobi or Addis Ababa, build in enough layover time to clear immigration comfortably rather than rushing a tight connection. Arriving into Kigali's International Airport is refreshingly smooth by regional standards, and taxis into the city centre are readily available just outside arrivals.
