Route Briefing: Singapore to Da Nang
Just three and a half hours from Singapore sits one of Southeast Asia's most underrated coastal cities, and the fact that you can get there and back for under $150 roundtrip makes Da Nang one of the smartest short-haul escapes in the region. Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, and Scoot all fly this route year-round, so you're never short of options — and with a bit of timing, those options get very affordable indeed.
Da Nang has quietly evolved into a destination that rewards every type of traveller. The beaches along My Khe stretch for kilometres of clean, uncrowded sand backed by a relaxed promenade — a world away from the more frenetic beach scenes elsewhere in Southeast Asia. A short drive from the city, the Marble Mountains are a cluster of limestone and marble hills riddled with caves, temples, and shrines that feel genuinely ancient and atmospheric. Then there's the Golden Bridge up in the Ba Na Hills, that extraordinary pedestrian walkway held aloft by two giant stone hands — it's become iconic for good reason, and seeing it in person is genuinely more impressive than the photographs suggest.
Da Nang also puts you within easy reach of two UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Hoi An Ancient Town is roughly 30 kilometres south, a lantern-lit merchant town that's one of the most beautiful places in all of Vietnam. Hue, the former imperial capital, sits to the north and rewards a day trip with its grand citadel and royal tombs.
The food scene is built around central Vietnamese cuisine, which is distinct from both the north and south — expect bold, complex flavours, fresh herbs, and dishes like mi quang noodles and banh mi variations that locals are fiercely proud of.
Da Nang International Airport sits close to the city centre, so getting into town is quick and inexpensive by taxi or ride-hailing app. The dry season runs roughly from February through August, with June to August being peak beach weather and the busiest period for tourism. If you're travelling around Tet in late January, book well ahead — both flights and accommodation fill up fast and prices climb accordingly.
For the best fares out of Singapore, aim to book four to eight weeks in advance and consider flying mid-week rather than on weekends, which can shave a meaningful amount off the ticket price. Lock in that sub-$150 roundtrip fare and you've essentially paid for a long weekend in one of Vietnam's most rewarding cities.
