Flying from Dubai: what you need to know
Dubai International is Emirates' mega-hub and one of the world's busiest airports for international passengers. The airline's reach means you can fly nonstop from DXB to virtually any major city on any continent — over 150 destinations on Emirates alone. Add Flydubai (Emirates' budget sibling) and the route count approaches 250.
For connecting flights, Dubai is arguably the best positioned hub globally. Halfway between Europe and Asia, perfectly placed for Africa and the Indian subcontinent. Many travelers route through DXB specifically because the connection is convenient and the airport experience is excellent.
Flydubai is the budget play. They cover the Middle East, Central Asia, East Africa, and select European routes at fraction of Emirates pricing. Flydubai to Tbilisi, Baku, and Tashkent can be incredibly cheap — AED 500 roundtrip cheap. The two airlines code-share extensively, so you can mix and match.
Indian subcontinent routes from Dubai are the most competitive fare market at DXB. Emirates, Indigo, Air India, SpiceJet, and multiple Middle Eastern carriers all compete on routes to Mumbai, Delhi, Kerala, and Hyderabad. Roundtrips regularly drop below AED 700.
European flights from Dubai benefit from Emirates' sixth freedom traffic model. London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Amsterdam are all served multiple daily — and economy fares include checked baggage, meals, and the full-service experience.
Cheapest travel windows: Ramadan and the heat of June-August, when outbound demand from Dubai drops. October-November and late January-February also offer good international deals.
